Rep. Jay Moyer (R-Montgomery) recently attended the signing of House Bill 2525, legislation to substantially strengthen Pennsylvania’s Dog Law and introduce new standards of care and treatment for dogs kept in commercial breeding kennels in the state. The new law requires solid flooring and doubling the size of cages for dogs in commercial kennels. It also prohibits the stacking of cages; requires an outdoor exercise area for dogs; introduces new standards for temperature control, lighting and ventilation; requires annual veterinary examinations for dogs; and prohibits anyone except a veterinarian from euthanizing dogs in commercial kennels. Moyer has been a co-sponsor of the legislation since its introduction. Pictured are: (front row, left to right) Rep. Chris King (D-Bucks), Gov. Ed Rendell, Sen. Mike Brubaker (R-Lancaster); (back row, left to right) Sen. Chuck McIlhinney (R-Bucks), Rep. Patrick Harkins (D-Erie), Moyer, Rep. Michael O’Brien (D-Philadelphia), Rep. Bernie O-Neill (R-Bucks), Rep. Rick Taylor (D-Montgomery), and Sen. Stewart Greenleaf (R-Bucks/Montgomery). View more information here.
